1 – WHAT’S A REAL VAMPIRE

RV (Real Vampire) or HLV (Human Living Vampire) means a category of human and mortal being having a common feature: the need of energy. This energy is generally acquired by blood (bloody) or by psychic energy (psi vampires). The so-called “vampire” is a person who feel the need to take from other people and he feel bodily discomfort when this isn’t possible. This need, that have different forms (someone feel psychic discomfort, others, indeed, physical discomfort) is known as “Thirst”. Every single vampire is different, with his own features, but it is possible to list, in addition to the thirst, some of features more common among real vampires: First of all the aversion for the sunlight. In fact a RV often suffers burns or irritations after being exposed to sun and in some cases he feels also headache, nausea and giddiness. The more sensitive part at the sunlight of a RV are eyes, which can water, became red, irritated or even swollen if there are too much sunlight. A vampire is generally more active during he dark: several RV are iper-active during the night without feeling tiredness and sleep that are strong during the day. Another feature that many vampires share is the growth above the average of one or more sense: several RV, for example, can see better than common people, especially with little light; others
have a particularly sensitive hearing and they can hear sounds with frequencies that the majority of  people can’t hear. From the psychological point of view, eventually, many vampires have changeable character, so they alter moments of deep depression with moments of happiness and vitality. These
features are only some of those that the different RV have, the most common; The thing that makes a person a vampire is the Thirst: if a person don’t feel the need to feed himself with blood or energy, we can’t consider him a “vampire”.

2 – HOW DO THEY GET BLOOD

These are the main techniques that ca be used by the RV on their own preference. The most used are razor blades but other techniques are used, like other blades, syringes and by the traditional bite (but it isn’t used a lot because it is painful and provoke infections). We underline that RV don’t bite someone who don’t want to be bitten. Moreover they try to cause the less pain as possible; for this reason they use razor blades that aren’t particularly painful. The wounds of these blades heal up quickly because they are thin and definite, and they are better than wounds done by knifes, scissors or other objects less cutting. The giver must always be consenting. To give and to drink are always a pleasant thing for both the vampire and the giver. Before drinking or giving blood, the participants always do a blood test to avoid the transmission of diseases or bodily discomfort. Also the hygiene is important , in fact the RV, usually, don’t use the same syringes. The real vampires that made cuts or take samples of blood aren’t unprepared. They usually know well the human anatomy because a cut on the neck or on wrists may  bring complications . Menstrual blood can be used by a RV but it is normally avoided because it isn’t pure but it mingles with other organic substances.

3 – THE AWAKENING

The word “awakening” is used to describe the period in which a Real Vampire realize to be like that. The awakening of a vampire, say the statistics done among their enrolled by some of the most famous American sites concerning the world of HLV (Human Living Vampires = Real Vampire), generally happens during the puberty and accompany the physical and mental development that mark the passage from childhood to maturity. Others think that the awakening is subjective and it changes from person to person, for the time and for the length; it might be influenced by the environment, the friendships and many other facts that accompany the mental and social development of the individual. But how start the awakening and which are the factors that stimulate it? Many vampires can’t give an answer to this question; the awakening starts as a silent process, often without an apparent reason, without an element that rouse it. Many HLV say to have always felt a diversity, to always have known that they weren’t totally “human”, but they concede to be unable to give a complete motivation to this awareness. Many others declare that, slowly, the discomfort caused by the sunlight, the increase of activities during the night and the desire to feed theirselves with blood, appeared to change their day and absolutely “normal” life. The symptoms of vampirism showed during the awakening are often tended to increase and became more sensitive with the time, but it’s also true, as many RV say, that they can be hidden and managed with the experience and the habit.

4 – THE RENFIELD SYNDROME

The Renfield syndrome, described for the first time by the psychologist Richard Noll, develops, in most cases, in three stages: in the first stage, generally during childhood, they practice self-vampirism, i.e. people affected by this syndrome inflict theirselves wounds to drink their blood and also the sight of the blood is pleasant; after the puberty they also accompany this practice with masturbation. The second stage is the zoophagy, i.e. the desire to eat animals and particularly to drink their blood. The person affected by this syndrome, in most cases, accompany this acts with sexual practices. The final stage, eventually, is the desire of human blood; the affected can have it with the agreement of the victim, but in some cases he use violence and in rare cases he commit homicide. The sexual component associated with the blood is very strong in the majority of cases; moreover there can be spiritual associations that identify in blood life and power. The majority of people affected by the Renfield syndrome are male and develop this disease because of a strong infantile trauma. There are many elements that distinguish an HLV from a person who have this syndrome: first of all, many RV say that they aren’t sexually excited when they obtain blood. To drink blood is pleasant but no RV find this feeling similar to that given by a sexual intercourse; it is rather compared to the feeling that we feel when we are hungry and we eat. So, rather than a stimulant, blood for HLV is something that satisfy a need. Moreover, the majority of RV don’t drink animal blood and don’t pass the zoophagy stage. Someone also states that they didn’t practice self-vampirism, they don’t like their own blood; many others, indeed, even if they desire the blood of a giver, they drink their blood if this isn’t possible. While in the Renfield syndrome the stages are irreversible, many RV have a swing between the two, drinking their own blood only in extreme cases. And while people affected by the Renfield syndrome is for the majority male, among the RV there isn’t the prevalence of one of the two sex.
