MERMAIDS

        At first mermaids were, in greek mythology, flying being with the head of a girl who, with their singing, attract sailors bringing them towards a cruel fate, to crash with their boat on the rocks. They were a danger for navigators. They were born from the idea that the sea, in the unexplored areas, was inhabited by monstrous and evil creatures.  Then, throughout centuries, from flying being it became half fish and half woman. But they still represent a danger for sailors.

There are someone who think that mermaids are being coming from the submerged isle of Atlantis, or anyway from an unknown subaqueous world. There are many legends that tell about monstrous being who, coming from the sea, bring terror on the Pacific shore and, sometimes, kidnapped poor unlucky person, bringing them from where they were come.

Already in the mythology of Mesopotamia is told about amphibian being, the so called Oannes. Many cuneiform tablet found talk about seven wises who reach the lands of Sumer more than 5.000 years ago to teach the human race. These being were created by Annunaki, who were the gods of the mesopotamic mythology. Those legends are similar to others of others people. Also Plato tell us in his writing of a story that he heard form Solon, concerning seven wises came from the sea that brought knowledge in the ancient Egypt, at the dawning of civilization. Also in the ancient Japan there are Kappas, strange being with finned feet and hands who came, them too, form the Pacific Ocean to teach humans. And here we may link to other legends concerning submerged worlds such as Atlantis and Lemuria (or Mu). In fact they think that, thousands of years ago, these two isles were the centre of two great empires. On both isles, it’s possible that were experimented unimaginable things, mortal weapons of mass-destruction and genetic experiments with the purpose of create an invincible race of warriors. Mermaids may be the result of one of these experiments, and perhaps they survived to the destruction that run over these civilizations.

Talking about more recent times, the passengers of a merchant ship affirmed that in the gulf of Aden exist a snake with the head similar to that of a bulldog. Many years before in the same gulf were fished two sirenoid, one male and one female (in the photo). Many thought that it was a joke, others that it was the only true evidence of the existence of strange being, similar to mermaids, in the most unexplored seas. On the other hand, we may be considered conceited if we think to know the 100% of the species living on Earth. In fact, sometimes, zoologists discover species of animals that they thought they didn’t exist or they were extinct. We don’t know if the sirenoid of Aden are or not real, however we can’t exclude any possibility.

There aren’t evidence of these sirenoids. This fact make things more difficult.

It’s sure that mermaids, as many other fantastic being, remain a charming mystery, that can still make us dream.
